About David J. Cox and his practice
Early days
David was born on a farm in the little village of Upper Dicker and attended the local infants and junior school before moving on to the grammar school. Having passed his GCE's he joined the Civil Service. His first choice was the Ministry of Agriculture but a senior Tax Inspector used to call at the farm on his way back from visiting the local speedway to buy eggs and had decided that David would be an ideal candidate for his department. So it was that David joined the Inland Revenue in Redhill in October 1960. He transferred to the Lewes office in 1964 and remained there until 1967 when he was head hunted by a national tax consultancy firm to whom he had been recommended by a former colleague.
Working for Tax Consultants and Accountants
David worked for the Tax Consultants from 1967 until 1970 when he joined a local firm of accountants as Tax Manager. He stayed with them until 1973 when he made his first venture into running his own practice combined with being a mobile disc jockey and a youth club leader. In the late 1970's David joined the tax department of a West End firm of accountants as Tax Manager working 4 days a week in London and three days a week in Eastbourne on his own clients. By the beginning of 1978 David's own practice had grown so much he had to give up the work in London although he still continued the disco work. He went full time in his practice in 1981.
The practice from 1981 todate
From 1981 David concentrated on his own clients and he has looked after many who are still with him today. A few of those have now retired so he is taking on new clients to replace them.
David deals with all small businesses, whether they be sole traders, partnerships or limited companies not needing an audit. Most of the clients are in the Eastbourne area but more recently he has taken on clients from Kent and South London.
